Rittenhouse, the son of Samuel and Sarah Rittenhouse, was born near Bainbridge, Ohio, November 14, 1844, died at his home near Rainsboro, April 21, 1909, aged 64 years 5 months and 7 days. He was united in marriage to Susan M. McMechen on March 3, 1879. To this union were born seven children, four of whom are still living, two having preceded their father to the better land. In 1866, Mr. Rittenhouse united with the M. E. Church at what used to be known as Jones Chapel, under the pastorate of Rev. Richard Pitzer, and later transferred to the U. B. Church at Rainsboro, at which place his name still remained at the time of his death. For a number of months he had been passing through the deep waters of affliction, but was able to look up through them and say "Thy will, O Lord, be done" and now he hath entered into rest. For years Mr. Rittenhouse applied his mind closely to his vocation of agriculture and proved one of the most successful ones in the country. His family feel keenly their loss of a loving father, the community feels the loss of both a good citizen and practical business man. The funeral services were held at the home conducted by Rev. E. A. Huntington, the K of P of Rainsboro, of which Mr. Rittenhouse was a member, assisting. Interment in the Hillsboro Cemetery. Furnished by Marianna Kerns Morgan 11/16/2015
