Description	:	Joseph A. Nelson, age 88, of 140 Church St. Westernport, died on Thursday, Nov. 4, 2004, at Sacred Heart Hospital, Cumberland. He was born on Nov. 14, 1915, at McKeesport, Pa., and was the son of the late Gustave Nelson and Corrine (Bedell) Nelson. He was preceded in death by his wife Eleanor (Welsh) Nelson who died in 1966. Nelson, age 88, of 140 Church St. Westernport, died on Thursday, Nov. 4, 2004, at Sacred Heart Hospital, Cumberland. He was born on Nov. 14, 1915, at McKeesport, Pa., and was the son of the late Gustave Nelson and Corrine (Bedell) Nelson. He was preceded in death by his wife Eleanor (Welsh) Nelson who died in 1966. He was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church in Westernport. He formerly owned and operated Joe's Men and Boys Clothing Store in Westernport. He worked at the Allegany Co. Department of Social Services. In the late 1960s while employed by Sacred Heart Hospital, he implemented the Department of Patient and Family Services. He retired from the hospital in 1981. He was a charter member and past president of the Tri-Towns Lions Club. He loved to play golf and was a former member of Charlie's Angels at the Oakland Country Club. Mr. Nelson is survived by a son, Dr. Joseph A. Nelson Jr. and wife Helen of LaVale; and one daughter, Ann Ryan Nelson Noell of Charlotte, N.C.; and three grandchildren, Kenneth J. Nelson, Christopher J. Nelson and Ryan E. Nelson and wife Nancy. He is also survived by his long time friend and companion, Norma Nelson. Mr. Nelson requested that he be cremated. The family will receive friends at the Fredlock Funeral Home in Piedmont on Friday from 7-9 p.m. and on Saturday from 2-4 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday at 6 p.m. at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Westernport with the Father Adam Parker as celebrant. Inurnment will be private. Mr. Nelson requested that memorials be directed to the Maryland Medical Eye Bank, 815 Park Ave., Baltimore, MD 21222.
