Description	:	Joseph A. Kroeckel, 88, retired machinist of the old Defiance Machine works, died at 11:20 a.m. Tuesday in Defiance City Hospital. He had been admitted Monday morning after the rescue squad was called to the home of a daughter, Mrs Agnes Burns, 706 Kentner St., because he had had a heart attack. He had been making his home with the daughter. He came to America when nine years old after having been born in Bavaria, Germany, on Oct. 1 1874. His parents were John and Agnes Kroeckel. He was the last of the family to survive. His wife, the former Anna M. Batt, died on June 10, 1921. Surviving are three sons, Louis A., Paul J. and Donald F. Kroeckel, all of Defiance; three daughters, Mrs. Burns, Mrs. Elmer C. (Beatrice) Rost, Defiance, and Mrs. Edwin (Stella) Mallifake, Celina; 24 grandchildren; and 29 great grandchildren. Preceding him in death were: two sons, Robert I. in 1959, and Joseph H. in 1911; a daughter, Sister M. Clarence, June 29, 1955; two brothers, John and Frank; a sister, Mrs.Cecelia LaFontaine; a grandchild, and two great grandchildren. Mr. Kroeckel was a member of St. John Catholic Church and its Holy Name Society. The society will recite the rosary at 8 p.m. Thursday in the Stick and Frye Defiance funeral home. Services will be conducted in St. John's Church at 9 a.m. Friday by the Rev. Clarence Kroeckel, C.P.P.S., of St. Joseph's College, Collegville, Ind. The Rev. Fr. Kroeckel is a nephew. The burial will be in Riverside cemetery.
