Joseph Arnold late of East Haddam, deceased, for ourselves and heirs, executors and administrators agree in the following manner int he division of said honored Father's estate. We further agree that our brother Joel Willey and Abagail his wife have and possess all the moveable estate that they now possessed of". Then follows the details of the distribution, the sons signing alone and each daughter signing with her husband. Joel and Abagail signed the agreement a day later than the others indicating they they were not present whent he agreement was made and signed. They were living in Ludlow, MA at the time. Joseph Arnold was a prominent citizen of the Millington Parish of East Haddam. In October of 1752, he was confirmed as Ensign and in October of 1755 as Captain of the First company or trainband of Millington. He and his wife lie buried, it is said, in the Arnold plot in the Long Pond Cemetery north east of Millington where his son Joseph, Jr. and family also are buried. His father willed him 60 acres of land in East Haddam joining the land of Serg.
