Memorial Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, July 31, 2014 at the Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Kranzburg with Father Kenneth Koster officiating. Read More	Joseph "Joe" Bernard Thiewes, age 85, formerly of Goodwin, SD, passed away on Sunday, July 27, 2014 at the Good Samaritan Home in Clear Lake, SD. Memorial Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, July 31, 2014 at the Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Kranzburg with Father Kenneth Koster officiating. Burial with Military Honors presented by Codington County Post 17 of the American Legion and South Dakota Army National Guard Funeral Honors Team of Watertown will be in the Holy Rosary Cemetery in Kranzburg, SD. Visitation will be prior to the services on Thursday at the Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Kranzburg. Honorary Pallbearers will be Bob and Sharon Weber and Mike and Tara Gibson. Joseph Bernard Thiewes was born on January 6, 1929 to Paul J. and Frances (Korbel) Thiewes on the family farm in Deuel County. Joe completed the eighth grade at Hilltop School District #12 and served in the United States Army from October, 1951 through October, 1953, including service in Korea, before being honorably discharged. Joe earned the Good Conduct Medal during his active duty. He returned to the family farm after his discharge where he continued to live until he entered the Good Samaritan Home in Clear Lake on March 6, 2009, where he was currently residing. Joe was a life-long member of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Kranzburg and long time member of the American Legion. He enjoyed life on the farm, especially planting time and harvesting the crops each year. Joe is survived by a cousin, Dennis Korbel of Goodwin, SD.
