The word of his demise was not unlooked for, as the young man has been critically ill following an operation for a ruptured appendix. The deceased was a patient at the hospital nearly three months and for a while his condition improved and he was up in an arm chair. A second operation was performed about two weeks ago to close the incision which had never healed and since then he has not rallied and has for days suffered much and Sunday his relatives were summoned and have been with him since. His wife and son are the near relatives who survive. Mrs. Barr has never left her husband since he has been a patient at the hospital. Mrs. Rosa Barr Kraft a sister who resides in Upton has been for some time at her home in Artesian, S. D. At the time of closing the notes no funeral arrangements are known. * Weston County Gazette, WY, Thursday, September 1, 1927 J. D. Barr Dies at Hospital The death of J. D. Barr occurred Tuesday morning at the Sisters Hospital, Hot Springs, S.D. where Mr. Barr had been a patient some time. Pneumonia set in following an operation for appendecitis and a pulmonary absess formed from which patient was unable to rally. Mrs. Barr was with him during his entire illness and had herself undergone an operation while at the hospital. * Weston County Gazette, WY, Thursday, September 8, 1927 Joseph David Parr (sic/Barr) was born in Ceragorda county, Iowa, December 8th, 1887, and died at the Sisters hospital at Hot Springs, S. D., Tuesday morning, Aug. 30, 1927, after two operations and eleven weeks of suffering. Joe put up a hard fight for life and seemed hopeful until the last few hours. The deceased came to Weston county in 1913 and filed on a claim and made his home here ever since. In 1917 he married Mary Martens daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Martens, and to this union was born one son, who is nine years old. Besides the wife and son, he leaves four sisters and one brother to mourn his untimely death. The sisters are Mrs. Rosa Barr Kraft of Upton, Mrs. Emily Johnson of Artesia, S. D., Mrs. Eva Bickford, Sioux Falls, S. D., and Mrs. Madge Snipps, of Mason City, Ia., and the brother, Ben H. Burr, who lives on the old homestead near Dougherty, Iowa. The brother and sisters were all with him at the last. Also a brother-in-law, Chas. Snipps, who took charge of the body during the journey to Dougherty, Iowa, where interment was made by the side of his father and mother, who both passed away in the last eighteen months. A brother and sister were buried there in infancy. Joe was a good neighbor, and a kind and loving father and husband and his many friends extend their heartfelt sympathy to the family.
