Description	:	Joseph David Page was born April 17, 1900, on a farm northwest of Nelson. He received his eduction in the Nelson schools. In his last year of high school, at the age of 18, he volunteered to join the Army and received his training at Hastings College. He received his eduction in the Nelson schools. In his last year of high school, at the age of 18, he volunteered to join the Army and received his training at Hastings College. After his Army service he completed his high school education in Nelson and farmed with his father northwest of Nelson. On Febr. 3, 1923, he was married to Miss Carmen Boyle of Hill City, Kans. Of this marriage were born four children. From the years 1923 through 1944 he farmed the Spurck-Scully-Scroggin tenant farm northwest of Nelson. Joe left Nelson in 1947 and began working on the railroad in Houston, Tex. In mid-1948 he remarried, his second wife being Mrs. Laura Mae Eddy of Houston. For the past five years he worked as a carpenter on residential and commerical construction in Houston. Joe was a faithful member of the First Presbyterian Church in Nelson, and, with his family Carmen, brought his family up in a Christian atmosphere. He joined the American Legion at its creation and was active in many of its functions here in Nelson. He is well-remembered in the Nelson community as a good hard working farmer and a man always ready to help his neighbors. He passed away suddenly from a heart attack in Houston, Tex., on Friday, May 27, 1955, at the age of 55 years, 1 month and 10 days. God was merciful with him because he died within a few minutes of the stroke, never regaining consciousness. The heart condition was known only by Joe and his family doctor in Houston. Funeral services were held at the Fogle West Funeral home in Houston with the Reverend Lovett of the First Presbyterian Church officiating. A military funeral was conducted with the American Legion as pallbearers. The firing squad was from the Ellington Field AFB in Houston. The presentation of the colors by the folding of the flag from the coffin was made to Mrs. Laura Page. Burial was in the Forest Park Cemetery in Houston. Joe was preceded in death by his father, John Page, in 1945. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Laura Mae Eddy Page of Houston; his mother, Mrs. John A. Page of Nelson; a sister, Mrs. Ethel Page Mann, and husband Fred of Juniata; a sister, Mrs. May Page Schufeldt, and husband Earl of Nelson; a son, Robert, and family of San Mateo, Calif.; a son, Richard, and family of Houston, Tex.; a daughter, Mrs. Jean Page Minert, and family of Long Beach, Calif.; and a daughter, Mrs. Laurine Page Schleif and husband of Long Beach, Calif. Out of town relatives in Houston for the funeral staying in the home of Richard Page were Robert Page, Mr. and Mrs. Earl Schufeldt and Mr. and Mrs. Fred Mann.
