SCHUYLER Joseph D. "Joe" Eckstein 66, of Schuyler died Thursday, April 3, 2008, at the Butler County Health Care Center in David City. Services are 11 a.m. Monday at First Presbyterian Church in Schuyler with the Rev. Laura Hollister officiating. Joe was born March 6, 1942, in Schuyler, to Joseph Cyril and Antoinette (Reznicek) Eckstein. He graduated from Schuyler High School. Joe worked for Johanson Cleaners, Didier Grocery, Parr Furniture, Rydel Lawn and Garden Center, managed the Schuyler Manor for many years and recently worked at the Power Wash Car Wash in Schuyler. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church where he had served as an elder and two terms as a Deacon. Joe also was very committed to the Schuyler Cemetery where he served on the board since 1978 as Secretary/Treasurer. He received the Aksarben Good Neighbor Award in 1983 and the Sertoma Service to Mankind Award 1993. Joe enjoyed gardening, listening to Czech music and painting ceramics. He is survived by his sister, Betti and her husband, Leonard Podany of Fremont; two nieces, Denise and her husband, Stan Blair of Granby, Colo., Teresa Podany of Hastings; and one nephew, Mark Podany of Vermillion, S.D.; and four great-nephews and nieces.
