Description	:	Son of Joseph Ely and Elmira Canniff. Married 1st, Elizabeth Driffield May 3 1860,of New York, New York at the Willett St Methodist Church, New York, NY. She was the daughter of Edward Driffield and Lydia Elizabeth Ely and twin sister to Esther Ann Driffield Cocks. Prior to 1870 he moved his family from New York to Michigan, settling in the Kalamazoo area. He found employment with the Kellogg Holtenhouse Company of Kalamazoo, where he was a carpenter foreman manufacturing sashes and blinds. Married 1st, Elizabeth Driffield May 3 1860,of New York, New York at the Willett St Methodist Church, New York, NY. She was the daughter of Edward Driffield and Lydia Elizabeth Ely and twin sister to Esther Ann Driffield Cocks. Prior to 1870 he moved his family from New York to Michigan, settling in the Kalamazoo area. He found employment with the Kellogg Holtenhouse Company of Kalamazoo, where he was a carpenter foreman manufacturing sashes and blinds. Two years following the death of his first wife, he married 2nd Elizabeth J Miller, March 15 1876 in Kalamazoo, Kalamazoo Co, Michigan. She was the daughter of Adam Welty Miller and Sarah Ann Barton of Allegan. Within two months, he died of consumption, leaving his two young sons, William and Mortimer. A local physician, Dr William T Stillwell, took the two boys in to his home and cared for them. Dr Stillwell must have been a great influence on William, as he attended the University of Michigan, becoming a well loved doctor. Cause of death: consumption (tuberculosis) His brother Thomas W is buried in the Riverside Cemetery, Kalamazoo, Michigan. #25810782
