PITTSBURG — Joseph (Joe) E. Ferns, 96 of Pittsburg died at 6:18 a.m. Thursday November 25, 2010 at the Sunset Manor Nursing Home in Frontenac.
He was born May 27, 1914 in Chicopee, KS the son of Edward P. and Louise (George) Ferns. He was a graduate of Pittsburg High and Pittsburg Business College.
Joe married Mabel Hasson on June 15, 1935 in Pittsburg, KS she preceded him in death on March 27, 2002.

PITTSBURG — Joseph (Joe) E. Ferns, 96 of Pittsburg died at 6:18 a.m. Thursday November 25, 2010 at the Sunset Manor Nursing Home in Frontenac.
He was born May 27, 1914 in Chicopee, KS the son of Edward P. and Louise (George) Ferns. He was a graduate of Pittsburg High and Pittsburg Business College.
Joe married Mabel Hasson on June 15, 1935 in Pittsburg, KS she preceded him in death on March 27, 2002.
He worked from 1932 until 1946 for Standard Brands Inc. in Independence, KS. He moved to the Pittsburg area in 1946 and from 1951 until 1978 he worked for the Kansas Army Ammunition Plant. He then worked for Beasley's Tire in Pittsburg and retired in 1990.
Joe was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church a 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus. He was an active member of the Pittsburg YMCA, a sports enthusiast, an avid golfer who over the years achieved 10 holes-in-one at Four Oaks Golf Course in Pittsburg.
Survivors include a daughter JoAnn Crespino and husband Frank of Pittsburg; a son Francis Ferns MD and wife Cathy of Leawood, KS; 4 grandchildren Curt Crespino, Ryan Ferns, Jonathan Ferns and wife Corbie, Jennifer Ferns; two great-grandchildren Erica Harris and Anthony Crespino. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, a brother Donald Ferns a sister Marie Jones and a grandson Craig Crespino.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Monday November 29th at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Pittsburg with Father Thomas Stroot as celebrant. Burial will follow in the Highland Park Cemetery. The parish rosary will be recited at 6 p.m. Sunday at the Bath-Naylor Funeral Home in Pittsburg where family will receive friends following the rosary until 7 p.m. Friends may call the funeral home after 3 p.m. Sunday.
