Description	:	Joseph E. "Joe" Schooler, 86, a long time resident of the Wenatchee Valley, died at the Cashmere Convalescent Center on January 9, 2006. He was born May 12, 1919, to Charles and Elsie (Maye) Schooler in Kennebec, South Dakota. He lived with his parents on the family farm until late 1935, when they moved to the Monitor area. "Joe" Schooler, 86, a long time resident of the Wenatchee Valley, died at the Cashmere Convalescent Center on January 9, 2006. He was born May 12, 1919, to Charles and Elsie (Maye) Schooler in Kennebec, South Dakota. He lived with his parents on the family farm until late 1935, when they moved to the Monitor area. Joe went to work for the CCC's building trails- roads in the forests around Stevens Pass. Before WWII, he worked in local orchards and as a warehouse foreman. During the war, he worked as pipefitter on Liberty Ships in the Kaiser Shipyards. In August 1941, he married Johnnie Bishop. She was his companion until his death. In February 1953, he went to work for Alcoa as a Potman. He served as a Union Stewart and Head Shift Safetyman for his beloved "D" shift. After 28+ years, he retired and went to work as a crossing guard for many years. He loved that job and would fondly call all his little charges, "JOE'S KIDS". After being struck by a car while helping the kids cross the street, he was honored as Man of the Year by a local service club, Golden Apple Award, from the local School District for his dedication and caring for children and their safety to and from Lincoln School. Joe loved watching the Wenatchee Chiefs for many years, and teaching baseball to grandsons. He also enjoyed fishing, stock car racing and especially gardening. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Johnnie; two daughters, Carol Maydole (Norman) of Cashmere, Patricia Bryant of Seattle; one son, Joseph L. Schooler (Terry) of Malaga; four grandchildren, Russell Maydole of Lake Stevens, Becky Vanderpool of Malaga, Jennifer DeChanne (Joey) of East Wenatchee, Joseph Aaron Schooler (Monica) of Kennewick; nine great-grandchildren, Justine, Torin, Ryley, Justin, Brett, River, Joseph Mitchell, Hayden and Ryder (Butter); two sisters, Fern Marr of Cashmere and Peggy VanAuken of Rochester, WA. Joe became a member of the Wenatchee Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses in 1988. Services will be held at Telford's Chapel of the Valley on Saturday, January 21, 2006, at 11:00 a.m. Private Interment will be at Evergreen Memorial Park. Donations in lieu of flowers, can be made to the local Alzheimer's Association. There will be a gathering of family and friends at the Cedar's Inn following the service.
