He is also preceded in death by his sister, Norma Drye; brothers Scottie Lane Stegall and Baby Stegall; nephew Billy Stegall. Funeral services for Joseph will be held 11:00AM Saturday, November 13, 2021 at Olive Branch Baptist Church, 8804 NC-218, Marshville, NC 28103. Joseph was a long time educator of Union County Public Schools. He loved farming, was an avid gardener, enjoyed playing chess and loved spending time with his beautiful grandchildren. Joseph was also very active in his church as a Sunday School Teacher and Deacon. As an avid sports enthusiast, he cheered on the UNC Tarheels and Atlanta Braves. Joseph is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Wanda Simpson Stegall of Marshville; his two sons, Aaron Joseph Stegall, wife Alicia of Marshville, Jarrod Stegall, wife Lauren of Indian Trail; his daughter, Aleque Stegall James, husband Stuart of Waxhaw; four brothers, Bill Stegall, wife Betty of Wingate, Kenneth Stegall, wife Sharon of Marshville, Tim Stegall, wife Dawn of Monroe, Gary Stegall, wife Debra of Monroe; three sisters, Louise Napier, husband Henry of Marshville, Diane Griffin, husband Irvin of Marshville, Beverly Howell, husband Doug of Huntersville; brother-in-law, Bobby Drye, wife Anita of Marshville, six grandchildren, Shelby, Ansley, Charley, Logan, Bryson and Juliana. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St Jude Childrens Research Hospital, 501 St Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38405 or Olive Branch Baptist Church.
