Collins, the second son of Andrew and Mary A. Collins, was born in Marion County, Iowa, February 27, 1868, and died December 23, 1916, aged forty-eight years, ten months and four days. He lived with his parents in the vicinity of Vandalia until young manhood, when he was united in marriage to Cora Fuson, and moved to Bondurant, Iowa. Four children were born to them: Chester Raymond, Errett LeRoy, Ina Grace, and a baby daughter who died in infancy. In March, 1906, he moved his family to Milestone, Saskatchewan, Canada, where they have since made their home. In 1900 he accepted his Savior, placing membership in the Church of Christ at Bondurant, and thence to Milestone, Saskatchewan. He has been a faithful steward, living a life of Christian service. Always of a happy disposition, he found joy in making others happy. He was a true friend to all. Death came as a result of perontitis, caused by an operation for cancer, in St. Mary's Hospital, Rochester, Minnesota, December 23, 1916. On Sunday morning, December 24th, the body arrived in Bondurant and was carried to the parental home, the funeral being held on Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. from the Bondurant Church of Christ, the pastor, Fred Hughs, having charge of the service. Interment in Bondurant cemetery. To the dear old father, who tried with almost sightless eyes, to see the beloved form of his son, came the summons at midnight and surrounded by his children, he, too, closed his eyes in peaceful slumber and the brave spirit passed on to meet his Savior whom he loved. Andrew Collins was born in Portage County, Ohio, February 24, 1837, and died December 28, 1916, aged seventy-nine years, ten months and four days. At the age of sixteen years he emigrated with his parents to Iowa, living on the farm in the vicinity of Prairie City and Vandalia, until the year 1861, when the call came for volunteers. He enlisted, serving three years in the Union army. On February 2, 1865, he was united in marriage to Mary Ann Rutherford. To this union was born twelve children, seven of whom are living and were present at the funeral. They are J. R. Collins, of Bondurant, H. W. Collins, of Des Moines, Mrs. Myrtle Fuson, June Collins, Mrs. Pearl Ingle, all of Bondurant and A. J. and F. E. Collins, of Corinne, Saskatchewan, Canada. Five have gone on before, an infant daughter, Bessie E., Fannie F. Fuson, Cella Pricer, and Joseph E. Collins. At the age of forty-two years he united with the Church of Christ and as long as it were possible he attended religious services, taking an active part in the work of the church, always doing what his hands found to do. For a number of years he has been an invalid, gradually losing strength but always cheerful and hopeful. His mind remained clear and within three hours of his death, he conversed on various subjects with his family and with friends. The funeral was held on Sunday, at 2:00 p.m. from the Church of Christ, the pastor, Fred Hughs, having charge of the service, assisted by Walter Sandy, the evangelist. The pall bearers were three sons and three sons-in-law, J. R., H. W. and A. J. Collins, H. W. Pricer, J. C. Fuson, and O. E. Ingle. Interment in Bondurant Cemetery. Those left to mourn the loss of this father and son are many. The aged companion of the father, who has been devoted to him through all the years of his suffering, the grown sons and daughters, twenty grandchildren and a sister, Mrs. Jane Danley, of Drexel, Missouri; the younger wife bereft of a helpmate, the two grown sons and little daughter, eleven years of age, and a host of friends. Up from the lowly home, Away from the vacant chair, How oft in dreams the gold-paved streets we roam And join the dear ones there.
