He was born, near Greenfield, Ohio, Jan. 20th, 1833. He was the third of five sons, of Solomon and Margry Fernow. John, the second son being the only surviving member of this family. Read More	The Marion Sentinel Thursday January 22, 1891 At the residence of his sister-in-law Mrs. Ann Fernow, near Marion, Iowa, January 15th, 1891, Joseph Fernow. He was born, near Greenfield, Ohio, Jan. 20th, 1833. He was the third of five sons, of Solomon and Margry Fernow. John, the second son being the only surviving member of this family. They came from Ohio to the present home in 1851 and on the death of the father. In 1864, Joseph and Samuel came into possession of that part of the farm which included the homestead. Samuel died on December 15, 1884, leaving his wife and six children, Joseph continued to make his home with them, proving a valuable help with his councel in the family and in the management of the farm, and he in turn has always had a pleasant home, and appreciative friends, ready to administer to his wants. For many years it has been a christian home, the children as they reached their youth, choosing the God of their parents. Mr. Fernow's health had been failing for some time, but he had been confined to the house for only a few weeks. In the same home where father and mother and brother had ended their days he breathed his last. He was a kind, retiring, honest man, of whom all his neighbors speak well. The funeral services were held in the Presbyterian church conducted by Revs. Gist and Marshall.
