Joe was born on October 20th, 1930 to long-time Boulder residents Leo and Isabelle Brehm. He served with distinction... Read More	Joseph Francis Brehm Joseph Francis Brehm passed away peacefully on July 23rd in Boulder. At the time of his passing, he was surrounded by those he loved. Joe was born on October 20th, 1930 to long-time Boulder residents Leo and Isabelle Brehm. Joe's maternal grandfather, John Sailer, had arrived in Colorado in the early 1870's and was active in many gold mining ventures in the region. Joe attended Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic School, Casey Junior High, Boulder High and the University of Colorado. In 1950 Joe volunteered for service in the United States Navy. He served with distinction under combat conditions during the Korean war and was honorably discharged in 1954. Joe returned home to Boulder, where he helped out at his father's business, Graham's Furniture. In the same year he began working for Public Service Company of Colorado, where he worked in the accounting and dispatch offices until his retirement in 1991. In the summer of 1955, Joe met a beautiful girl from Wisconsin during a weekend getaway in Estes Park. The girl was Sherry Marie Timm, who turned out to be the love of his life. The two were wed on January 28th, 1956 at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church. The couple remained happily married for over 59 years, only to be separated by Joe's passing. While he was in school, Joe played on many sports teams at Casey Junior High and Boulder High. Joe was ship's champion boxer while serving in the Navy aboard USS LST 1084. He played on many city league softball teams through the decades. After retirement, he took up the game of golf and played countless enjoyable rounds with friends and family members. Some of his best rounds were played with fellow sportsman Lyle Kraft. Joe was a loyal supporter of area sports teams. He attended CU Buffs football games starting in the 1930s and continued cheering on the Buffs for decades seated next to best friend Leroy Bessel at Folsom Field. Joe never wavered in his loyalty and supported the home team with equal fervor in good times and not so good times. He particularly enjoyed rooting for the Broncos with grandsons David or Karl by his side. Joe will be fondly remembered by those who knew him for his upbeat outlook on life and his fun, never hurtful, sense of humor. Joe was preceded in death by his sister, Mary Anne and by nephews Mike, Mark and Danny. He is survived by wife Sherry; sons David, Steven and Paul; grandchildren David, Karl, Cheri, Alec, Aiden; great granddaughter Stella and brother Leo.
