Description	:	Joe Lawler was born on March 6, 1913 on a farm in Boone County, Iowa. He attended Beaver Center Country School and Ogden High School, graduating in 1930. Joe had brown eyes and curly dark hair. He rode horseback to his first year in high school, the distance was seven miles. He attended Beaver Center Country School and Ogden High School, graduating in 1930. Joe had brown eyes and curly dark hair. He rode horseback to his first year in high school, the distance was seven miles. Later he drove a 1926 Model T Touring car to classes, usually picking up his cousin, Leo Lawler and other farm boys along the way. After his graduation, Joe helped his father on the farm, plus working for neighbors. In 1941 he rented 160 acres of farm ground south of Berkley, Iowa in Union Township from his mother. He also rented 80 acres of farm ground in Beaver Township. On January 29, 1941 he married Bernardine McCoy at Sacred Heart Catholic church in the city of Boone, Iowa. In 1948 Joe and Bernardine, along with their family, moved to Beaver Township where they rented 160 acres from the Vaughan family. Joe's brother, James Lawler, moved off the Lawler home place in 1961 to move to Vermillion, South Dakota, and shortly after that Joe and Bernardine and family took over the Lawler farming operations until about 1968 by moving into the Lawler home place. The contiuned living and farming there until about 1972 when they moved into the town of Ogden. They sold the Lawler farm to the Keenan's, thus ending 103 years of the Lawler family and descendants living and farming the home place in Boone County, Iowa. Joe got a job working for the Atomic Energy Commission as a patrolman in Ames, Iowa before developing Emphysemia and retiring in 1976. His health gradually declined until his death on September 19, 1982. He is buried beside his son, Pat, at the St. John's Catholic cemetery in Ogden, Iowa.
