Mr. Wirth was struck by lightning, Saturday evening, May 20, while walking thru his pasture to view an earth dam after a heavy rain. He was taken to the hospital the following day. Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon at 1 p.m. at the Sandoz funeral home and at 2 at the Pishelville ZCBJ Hall. In charge of the rites were Joseph Broz, Czech language, and W.J. Svoboda, English language. Interment was in the Bohemian National cemetery at Pishelville. A wealth of flowers was a mark of esteem from friends, neighbors and acquaintances who knew Mr. Wirth in life. Joseph Frank Wirth was born, March 19, 1883 in a log cabin, situated on the homestead of his parents, Joseph and Winceslava Wirth. Here he grew to boyhood and attended the district school. On attaining his 24th year, he married Miss Anna Hercik, November 26, 1907. To this union were born three sons and three daughters, Otto, Marie, May, Rose, Ernest and Frank. Surviving him are his wife and children, Otto of Verdel; Marie (Adolph Konopasek)of Star; May (Joe Siman) of Lesterville, S.D.; Rose (Joe Kubik) of Star; Ernest and Frank of Verdel. Also surviving are three grandchildren; two brothers; George of Verdel and Ernest of Vermillion, S.D. and four sisters, Mrs. Frank Hrbek of Verdel; Mrs. George Vonasek of Orland, Calif.; Mrs. Thomas Aleverius of Timpken, Kans. and Mrs. Thomas Cooper of O'Neill; as well as a host of other relatives and friends. ...The Verdigre Eagle 1 June 1944 (Thanks goes to Gayle Neuhaus for this obit!)
