Description	:	Joseph G. Norby was born on February 24, 1924 in Paulina, Iowa the son of Joe and Amy (Shook) Norby. He died on Thursday, September 11, 2003 at the Brookings Hospital at the age of 79 years. George spent his early years and received his education in Ireton, Iowa. At the age of fifteen, he started his career in printing. From 1943 until 1945 he worked on his stepfathers farm in Spencer, South Dakota. Norby was born on February 24, 1924 in Paulina, Iowa the son of Joe and Amy (Shook) Norby. He died on Thursday, September 11, 2003 at the Brookings Hospital at the age of 79 years. George spent his early years and received his education in Ireton, Iowa. At the age of fifteen, he started his career in printing. From 1943 until 1945 he worked on his stepfathers farm in Spencer, South Dakota. Before moving to Brookings, South Dakota in 1952, he worked at the Ireton Ledger, Ireton, Iowa, Hawarden Independant, Hawarden, Iowa, Wishik Star, Wishik, North Dakota and Spillane Printing in Minneapolis, Minnesota. On November 3, 1951, he married Marion Adell Meredyk in Minneapolis, MN. Marion died on November 6, 1951 in Spencer, South Dakota. After moving to Brookings, South Dakota, he was employed at Harolds Printing. He was united in marriage to Evelyn Marie Pederson on May 29, 1953 in Sinai, South Dakota. George continued to work for Harolds Printing until 1965, when he was employed at Hauff Printing until 1970. From 1970 until 1986, he worked at the Brookings Register. George continued his employment at the Brookings Register on a part-time basis for another five years. Evelyn died on May 8, 2002 in Sioux Falls, SD. He was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Brookings. He joined the Independant Order of Odd Fellows Lodge #502 at Ireton in 1946 and transfered to the Brookings I00F Lodge #40 in 1956, where he served in various positions. He also served as past Nobel Grand, and was a member of the Grand Lodge of South Dakota. He was also a member of the Tetonka Rebekah Lodge #26, the Excelsior Encampment #15 of Madison, South Dakota, the Brookings Area Genealogical Society, and the Brookings County Historical Society. He also did research for the Brookings Historic Preservation, History of the City of Brookings as well as others. He especially enjoyed collecting old newspapers and pictures pertaining to the history of Brookings. George is survived by one son, David Norby, and his wife, Teresa of Brookings, one daughter, Diana Munger, and her husband, Kent of DeSmet, South Dakota, four grandchildren, Amber Marie and Trevor Jon Norby, Samantha and Alexandra Munger, one brother, William (Karla) Lehrman, and one sister, May Wylie of Aberdeen, South Dakota. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wives (Marion and Evelyn), one daughter, Ann Marie Norby, one son, Wayne Earl Norby, one brother Darrell, and one sister, Ruth Ellen (Norby) Lehrman.
