Born in Fortuna on February 16, 1944 to Joseph G. and Betty Geniveve Lenardo. Joe was a life long resident of Humboldt County except for a tour with the U.S. Coast Guard where he met his wife Mary while stationed in the small town of New Richmond, Ohio. Joe and Mary had recently celebrated their 37th wedding anniversary on July 4th. They had moved from Cincinnati, Ohio to return to Fortuna in 1969. Joe had been employed with the Pacific Lumber Company as Lead Machinist for 25 years. He was always a hard worker, working the night shift at 'PL' as a machinist and during the day ran Mary's Originals & Lenardo Custom Framing with his wife Mary. Joe always believed that you give your very best and his favorite words were, "There's no substitute for quality." He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Fortuna and in passed years was a member of the Fortuna Chamber of Commerce, Fortuna Rotary, Professional Picture Frames Association, President of the Redwood Village Merchant Association in Fortuna and the Fortuna Business Improvement District. He is survived by his wife Mary Lenardo of Fortuna; daughter Jackie Goodman and her husband Mike of Cincinnati, Ohio; son Jeremy Lenardo and his partner Ann Fletcher of Fortuna; his father Joseph G. Lenardo Sr. of Rio Dell; sisters Diane Blake and her husband Dean of Rio Dell, Carol Fentress and her husband Pete of Cincinnati, Ohio; grandchildren, Ashley and Heather Goodman both of Cincinnati and numerous aunts, uncles and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his son Joey Lenardo and his mother Betty Legree-Lenardo. Friends are invited to attend a viewing and visitation beginning at 3p.m. Sunday, July 15, 2001 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Fortuna with a mass of Christian Burial bein offered that evening at 7 pm. with Father Jim Trent Celebrant. Friends are also invited to gather at St. Joseph's Church at 9:45 a.m. Monday morning to proceed in procession to Ocean View Cemetery in Eureka for the Graveside Committal Service at 10:30 a.m. Casketbearers will be Mike Goodman, George Hawkins, Pete Fentress, Bob Lees, Tom Legree, Gary Lenardo and Colin Blake. Honorary Casketbearers will be Dave Nichols, Bob McCutchen Jr., Ron Ocker, Leroy Martinelli, John Felt, Dave Nicholson, Jackie Allen, Chis Perreira, Jim Elliot and Jim Barsanti. Arrangements are under the direction of Goble's Chapel, Fortuna. The family has asked that those wishing to make memorial contributions to do so in Joe's name to Hospice of Humboldt, 2010 Myrtle Ave. Eureka, CA 95501 or to the American Cancer Society 2942 F Street Eureka, CA 95501.
