Read More	FORTSON, GA — Joseph Gregory Taylor, 55, died Sunday, January 10, 2010 after a courageous fight to regain his health. Greg was a local State Farm Insurance Agent and was active in and around Columbus and Harris County, GA for the past 32 years. He was a member of the Jaycees and Kiwanis, coached girls' softball teams, led church youth teams on home rehab mission trips, and worked with Open Door and Valley Rescue for many years, where he served as Santa Claus. Most recently he has been heavily involved in the Antioch Volunteer Fire Department in Harris County, where he served as Deputy Chief. He started that work as a volunteer fire fighter at the Mountain Hill VFD, and was largely responsible for securing money for modernizing trucks and equipment for those services in Harris County, where he owned a small farm. Greg will be remembered by those who knew him as a loving husband and father, a great friend, a giving man with a huge heart, one who sought to make the world a better place. He was immensely intelligent, a wonderful story teller and conversationalist, and a man with a fabulous sense of humor. He leaves us too soon and the world is a slightly poorer place as a result. He was preceded in death by his parents, Vestal C. Taylor, Jr., Nell Gillespie Taylor, and his sister, Susan P. Taylor. He is survived by his wife, Keely Blackmon Taylor; his three daughters, Jennifer Rebecca Taylor, Angela Brooke Taylor, and Stephanie Caroline Taylor; a stepson, James Frederick Miller III; two granddaughters, Kali Brooke Caddell and Taylor Alexis Hitt, and son-in-law Jimmy Parmer, all of Fortson, GA. He also leaves two brothers, David Taylor and V. C. "Pat" Taylor (Leilani) of North Carolina; and a number of nieces and nephews. His father, Vestal Taylor, was a columnist for the Columbus Journal-Enquirer prior to his death several years ago. Visitation will be held at the McMullen Funeral Home on 3874 Gentian Blvd., Columbus, GA Wednesday, January 13, 2010 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. The funeral service is scheduled at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, January 14, 2010 at the King's Pasture Church in Hamilton, GA. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be sent to the Antioch Volunteer Fire Department, 5430 GA Hwy. 219, Fortson, GA 31808.
