Read More	FJ. GREIF & FAMILY by Irene Skeels Mr. F.J. (Joe) Greif was born in Uniontown Washington, U.S.A. Dec. 3, 1879. In 1903 he mar- ried Eugenie Blanchette, of Uniontown, Wash. He worked in a warehouse stacking wheat sacks, each sack of wheat weighed 125 Ibs. The sacks were filled at the threshing machine or combine. One man stood by the sack, and would jig the sack as it was filling up to make sure the sacks were real full and firm to life. This man passed the sack to another and he would sew the top of the sack closed, and then they would be hauled by horses and wagon to the warehouse, and later shipped by railroad to other points. My Father said that at the time he worked there, he weighed 125 Ibs. and he had to carry these sacks of wheat from the wagons and stack them up in rows 6 high. He worked a few years at this, and then moved to Colville, Wash, where he bought a small farm, and grew grain, berries and had a small orchard. At that time there was advertisements in the pa- pers telling of the free homestead land in Alberta, to be had for ten dollars, if you wished to take up a homestead of 160 acres. So they sold their land and farming equipment, and took the train for Lacombe, Alta. They shipped their household goods to La- combe. They arrived in Lacombe in July 1910, with their three small daughters, Pearl, Irene and Mae, they were going to settle near Stettler, Alta. but meeting old friends, the Skeels family, they decided to move to Rimbey. Father bought four horses, a wagon, a democrat, mower and rake to put up hay. When they were ready to leave for Rimbey, he only had one broke horse, while the other three, had never been hitched up before, so they loaded the mower and rake in the wagon, and he and Gene Skeels hitched the four horses, to the wagon, and with Dad on the wagon seat with the lines, and Gene leading the lead team on horse back, they headed west in stampede style. After a few miles the teams were ready to listen to reason.
