Connell, a hardware merchant in Reading for close to 30 years, died Tuesday morning at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Ernest Officer, of Reading. Mr. Connell had been sick only a week. Connell, a hardware merchant in Reading for close to 30 years, died Tuesday morning at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Ernest Officer, of Reading. Mr. Connell had been sick only a week. He had suffered with rheumatism and neuralgia which affected his heart and caused his death. Mr. Connell was born in Indiana, November 16, 1840. He moved to Missouri in 1854 and in 1871 went to Neosho Rapids and helped to build the Santa Fe through that section of the county. He then moved to Wilson County, and in 1893, came to Reading. He was engaged in the hardware business there until last February when he sold out. In 1863 Mr. Connell was married to Miss Fannie Ambler in Missouri. To them were born eight children, seven of whom are living. Mrs. Connell died 28 years ago. Clara A. Hyde, a daughter, died Marcy 6, 1917. The seven children surviving are: G. A. Connell, Pingree, Idaho; Elsie Hubbard, Guyman, Okla.; F. R. and Ralph Connell, who live near Reading; Sadie Swartsel Elzers, Florida; Bessie Officer, Reading. Surviving Mr. Connell also are 17 grandchildren, five sisters and one brother. Mr. Connell served in the Civil War with Company D, 18th Indiana Volunteers from 186 to the end of the war. He was with Sherman to his famous march to the sea. Funeral services will be held in Reading Saturday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock, conducted by Rev. Mr. Buttman. Interment will be made at Reading.
