The only child of Joseph Mallinson & (2) Mary Ann (Smith) Westervelt was: *Rachel Emma Mallinson (b. Feb, 1873 in Allendale, Bergen, NJ; d. 22 Jan 1894), in 20th year; buried Union Cemetery, Wyckoff/Waldwick, Bergen Co., NJ.
They lived in Allendale, Bergen County, NJ probably on West Allendale Avenue. He was a carriage painter and decorator. In 1861 his occupation was given as farmer & painter. Mary Ann Smith had two daughters by her first husband, James Westervelt: Mary Catherine Westervelt, b. 1856 (who married her step-bro. John Andrew Mallinson); and Agnes Westervelt (Eliza Agnes Westervelt), b. 30 Sep 1858; d. 19 Aug 1925; m. Charles H. Weeks. They were listed in the 1865 New Jersey State Census, living in Hohokus Township (probably on or near West Allendale Avenue in what became Allendale): Joseph Mallinson, Mary A. Mallinson, John A. Mallinson (5-16), William H. Mallinson (5-16), Sarah E. Mallinson (5-16), Anna L. Mallinson, Mary C. Westervelt, Eliza A. Westervelt, Margaret Laubaugh, John J. Mallinson [probably Joseph’s brother]. A notation in the Wyckoff Ref Ch membership list says “Mary Ann Smith, wife of -blank- Malison, joined the Methodists.”

DIED - MALLINSON - At Allendale, New Jersey, on Saturday, May 17, 1913, Joseph, husband of the late Mary Ann Mallinson, aged 85 years, 4 months. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral on Wednesday, May 21, from his late home, Allendale, at 3:30 o'clock p. m. Interment at Union Cemetery.
