When they returned home, the family retired to bed up stairs, but contrary to his usual custom, Mr. Throckmorton remained sitting by the stove. But a few moments elapsed until the family and Aaron Myers, a brother to Mrs. Throckmorton, were aroused by the report of a revolver, and coming down stairs found Mr. Throckmorton lying upon his back on the floor and a revolver in his right hand. From the position, he never moved again or evinced any sign of life. The ball passed through his left breast and lodged against the skin under the shoulder blade.
