Read More	Obituray Joseph Harrison Toulouse Joseph Harrison Toulouse was born Aug. 21, 1844 in Grant Co., Wis. and died in Des Moines Nov. 9, 1920 at the age of 76 years 2 mo. and 19 days. He was married to Priscilla Dorothy Wayne on July 26, 1868. They made home in Wis. for the first 12 years of their married life. For the past 40 years they have lived in Iowa, first in Marne, Case Co., Iowa and later for the past 10 years in Des Moines, Iowa. Mr. Toulouse was a member of Presbyterian Church most of his life. He was a loving and kind husband and father and a good man. Mr. Toulouse was a veteran of the Civil War. He enlisted in Potosi at the first call for volunteers and he was in active service during the entire war. He was a member of the Co. H 25th Wis. Volunteer Infantry which company and regiment made up part of the famous Army of Tennessee. It was this wing of the Union Army concerning which Gen. Ulysses S. Grant made the summing up of the Army record in these terse words, "As an army, the army of the Tennessee never substained a single defeat during the 4 years of the war. Every fortification it assailed surrendered. Every force against it was either defeated, captured, or destroyed. Such a history is not an accident. Under Grant, Sherman, McPherson and Lodge, Mr. Toulouse lived through Vicksburg, Chattanooga and many other brilliant engagements. Exactly 56 years ago, to the day of his death, he was one of the thousands of blue coated yanks who swung into the line to follow Sherman on the historic never to be forgottem achievement, "The March to the Sea." Joseph served in the 25th Inf. Wis. Vol. during the Civil War. He and his brother John served in the 25th together. Joseph volunteered Aug. 11, 1862, served for 3 years and mustered out the 7th of June 1865 at Washington, D.C. The records show when Joseph enlisted he was 19 years of age, single, had blue eyes, dark hair, dark complexion, was 5 foot 9 3/4 inches in height, and by occupation a farmer. According to the obituary in the Des Moines Register, Joseph Toulouse lived in Wis. 12 years after his marriage and moved to Iowa in 1880 where he died.
