Description	:	Joseph Harvey Casteel, son of Peter Harvey and Ida (Reynolds) Casteel, was born April 8, 1904, in Schuyler County, Mo. He died January 12, 1978, in Kirksville, Mo., at the age of 73 years, nine months and four days. He married Edna Opal Eppley on May 30, 1925, at Queen City, Mo. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Sally and Don Hays, Richmond, Calif., and Herbert Hays, Vacaville, Calif.; four great-grandchildren, Sally, Lisa, Jason and Jennifer Hays; one brother, William Casteel, San Diego, Calif.; one sister, Mrs. Leslie (Ollie) Burns, Lancaster; and many nieces and nephews. He was a member of the Lancaster Christian Church. Mr. Casteel taught school in Schuyler County for many years; was postmaster at Lancaster for two years; helped establish the Rural Electric Association when that organization was formed; and was instrumental in the establishment of the nursing home district and the Schuyler County Nursing Home. He also farmed the land homesteaded by his great-grandparents, Lee and Mary White, in northern Schuyler County. Services were Saturday, January 14, 1978, at Lancaster Christian Church, conducted by Bob Schofield, paastor of the church. "The Old Rugged Cross" and "Face to Face" were sung by a trio, Owen Tucker, Raymond Carpenter and Herbert Melvin, accompanied by Mrs. Nancy Miller at the piano. Bearers were Hobert Burns, Hubert Burns, Bill Murdock, Earl Maize, Lee Reynolds and Larry Reynolds. Interment was in I.O.O.F. Cemetery at Lancaster with arrangements by Norman's.
