Own property free and clear; value $2K. 13 Sep 1945 Waterloo Daily Courier (Courier Special Services) "Missing" Lawler Sailor in States Lawler, Ia. -- Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Murray were speechless Wednesday when they read press dispatches that their son Leo Murray, seaman first class, had arrived at San Francisco, Cal., with Lt. Col. "Pappy" Boyington, ace marine pilot. The sailor had been reported missing since Nov. 14, 1942, when his submarine "U.S.S. Scorpion" was sunk by torpedo from a Jap cruiser near Truk. Twenty-one of the 84 crew members escaped from the submarine, a letter from another crew member to the Murray family revealed. Nothing had been heard directly from Seaman Murray. Another son, Seaman First Class Gene Murray, Wednesday telegraphed his parents that he would arrive home soon, having arrived in Seattle, Wash., and another son, Pfc.
