Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at he United Methodist Church in Albion, with the Rev. K.F. Kaleuati officiating. Levander Funeral Home in Albion is in charge of arrangements. Mr. Knott was born March 31, 1927, on the family farm west of Loretto to Joseph Peter and Senie Marianne (Peterson) Knott. Survivors include his wife, Doris, of Albion; four sons and daughters-in-law, Michael and Toni Knott of Arthur, Thomas and Karla Knott of Broken Bow, Kevin and Patrice Knott of Taylor and Ross and Danielle Knott of Petersburg; 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; a brother, Al Knott of Arthur; and two sisters, Phyllis Michel of Albion and Betty Miller of La Vista. He attended Boone County School District 67 through the 8th grade, Loretto High School to the 10th grade and graduated from Albion High School in 1944. On July 12, 1945, Joe entered the United States Army and served during World War II as a squad leader in the 32nd Infantry Regiment, until receiving an honorable discharge on Jan. 21, 1947. On May 28, 1950, Joe was united in marriage to Doris Darlene Fleek at the Loretto Methodist Church. They made their home on the farm near Loretto until moving to Sargent in 1968. They returned to Albion in May of 2000. Over the years, Joe farmed and ranched, sold feed and worked as a livestock nutritionist for Walnut Grove Feeds. He was a member of Loretto United Methodist Church since May 25, 1941, Sargent Volunteer Fire Department, District 89 School Board, and was a member and past president of the Custer County Sheriff’s Posse. Joe enjoyed horses, cattle, the sandhills, drinking coffee and he always had a bag of candy in his pickup. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Irene Bent and Mary Knott; two brothers, Lester Knott and Oliver Knott; and one grandson, Michael T. Knott.
