Description	:	Joseph L. McLain, son of the late Adam and Cynthia Wood McLain, was born January 4, 1867, and departed this life October 10, 1942, at the age of 75 years 9 months and 6 days. He spent his entire life on a farm one-half mile from his birthplace; with the exception of three years in Davis City, Iowa, where he was manager of the Farmers' Produce company. McLain, son of the late Adam and Cynthia Wood McLain, was born January 4, 1867, and departed this life October 10, 1942, at the age of 75 years 9 months and 6 days. He spent his entire life on a farm one-half mile from his birthplace; with the exception of three years in Davis City, Iowa, where he was manager of the Farmers' Produce company. On November 24, 1889, he was married to Millie Jane Davis; to this union were born nine children: Charles L. and James A., who live on the home place; Stephen, Des Moines; Mary E. Ambrassat, Sutherland, NE; Esther Grace Fitzwater, Kellerton; Nellie B. Fitzwater, Parsons, KS; Birdie Irene Ordway, Wichita, KS; Veta Viola Hanie and Madge Ballentyne, Des Moines. These children; with his widow; 18 grand children; 3 great grand children; brother, Lyman, Davis City; two sisters: Bertha Ruppert, Sioux City and Estella Hasbrook, Los Angeles, CA; a host of relatives and friends are left to mourn his passing. He was an active member of the Odd Fellows lodge for over 50 years and of the Masonic Lodge for 33 years. He was a Past Master and at the time of his death held the office of Senior Warden. He had been in failing health for several years and in late September he contracted pneumonia, was moved to the Decatur County Hospital, where, everything skillfull and loving hands could do was done, and just at day break, Jesus, whom he has accepted as his saviour, came to take him home. It was the great privilege of his wife, children and grandchildren, with the exception of Nellie, who is ill in the hospital, one grandchild and two great grandchildren, to be with him in his last days. Funeral services were held October 12, 1942 at the Union Church in Davis City. Rev. Geo. Lamb preached a very impressive sermon, John Tharp, Mrs. Lois Downey and Mrs. Vivian Burrell sang "No Disappointment in Heaven" an "Safe in the Arms of Jesus" accompanied by Mrs. John Tharp. The very beautiful and and impressive service by Rembrance Lodge No. 375 A.F. & A.M. was conducted by Professor John M. Howell, a life long friend of the deceased. He was carried to his last resting place in the Old Cemetery by his beloved brother Odd Fellows; Arthur Ventling, Floyd Kirk, Alvin Still, Vernon Hill, Nelson Driscoll and Miles Post. Card of Thanks----We wish to take this means of thanking our many friends and neighbors who so kindly helped us during the last sickness and passing of our dear one.
