Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Cataldo Funeral Chapel, Britt, with the Rev. James Mattson officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Britt. Visitation will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. today at the Cataldo Funeral Chapel, Garner. Joseph James Benesh, the son of James "Jim" and Mary (Vivarina) Benesh was born Jan. 18, 1911, in Chicago, Ill. He was baptized into the Christian faith. When he was 2 years old, the family moved from chicago to the Hayfield, area. After attending the rural schools and graduating from high school at Hayfield, he farmed with his parents. In July of 1929, he graduated from the National Radio Institute of Washington, D.C., with a radio technician's certificate. he served his country in the U.S. Army, being stationed at Camp Claiborne, in Los Angeles. After service, he returned to Hayfield and continued farming. On July 5, 1969, he married Frances L. Harmes at the Little Brown Church at Nashua. They made their home on the family farm where they continued to farm through 1996. He was a member of the Farm Bureau. He believed that "a man should stand tall and feel pride in the life he lived." He is survived by his wife, Frances L. Benesh of Garner; a sister, Mary A. Peterson of Forest City; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, James "Jim" Benesh, July 26, 1993; and a brother-in-law, Raymond A. Peterson.
