Description	:	Joseph Holeka was born near Prague, Czechoslovakia, May 5, 1876 and lived there until 1894 when he came to America. For several years he lived in Chicago and was married there to Miss Anna Krejci on June 4, 1900. Shortly after their marriage they came to Butler County where they resided on farms in the eastern part of the county. Five children, three daughters and two sons, were born to this union, all of whom survived their parents. Their mother died August [15], 1917. Shortly after their marriage they came to Butler County where they resided on farms in the eastern part of the county. On December [12], 1918, Mr. Holeka was married to Miss Anna [Churda] at David City. One son, Frank, was born to them. Mrs. Holeka survives her husband together with his six children: Mrs. Chas. Fiala, Mrs. Anton Cermak, Joseph, Jerry, and Frank Holeka of Brainard and Mrs. Frank Tichy of Prague. He also leaves four grand-children. The family moved to Brainard from the farm, about 10 years ago. Three years ago, Mr. Holeka was the victim of a paralytic stroke from which he never recovered. He was later taken to the St. Joseph's Home at West Point, Nebr., where he was cared for. Although practically helpless, he had been feeling quite well until the morning of May 31, when he suffered a second stroke from which he died the evening of that day. He was 57 years of age. Mr. Holeka was a man of cheerful disposition with always a smile and pleasant word for everyone. He suffered his long illness with patience and resignation. Funeral services were held at the Holeka residence in Brainard, conducted by Rt. Rev. Magr. Klein, on last Thursday afternoon at 3 o'clock. Burial was in the Brainard Catholic Cemetery. Pall-bearers were Jerry Liska, Anton Hladky, Anton Sedlak, and John, Joseph and Chas. Churda. Folks in attendance at the funeral from elsewhere were: Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Sedlacek of Mead, Mr. and Mrs. John Churda and family and Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Churda and family of Morse Bluffs and Mr. and Mrs. Frank Ticky of Prague. [Published in the The Brainard Clipper, June 8, 1933, pg. 1, col. 2.]
