Description	:	Funeral Wednesday for Joseph Kulhanek, 81 Funeral services for Joseph Kulhanek, 81, who died Monday, Sept. 30 at Lundberg Memorial Hospital, were conducted Wednesday afternoon at Hengstler's Chapel. The Rev. John Reid, pastor of the Congregational-Baptist church, officiated. Burial was in Greenwood Cemetery. Pallbearers were Emil Jerman, L.O. Marshall, Joe R. Somr, Ed Jiracek, Frank Soucek and Raymond Soucek, all of Verdigre. Joseph Kulhanek, son of Frank and Marie Kulhanek, was born June 3, 1887 in Horni Opolany, Czechoslovakia. Somr, Ed Jiracek, Frank Soucek and Raymond Soucek, all of Verdigre. Joseph Kulhanek, son of Frank and Marie Kulhanek, was born June 3, 1887 in Horni Opolany, Czechoslovakia. He came to the Verdigre area in 1905 to work on farms. He married Anne S. Somer on April 13, 1915 at Verdigre. Three children were born to them. They farmed the first year in the Sparta neighborhood, then moved to Verdigre where they farmed until 1921. They bought a house in town and he worked on county bridges and was a painter. In August 1955, they sold their home and moved into Creighton to be near their daughter and granddaughter. He suffered a heart attack in 1964 and had been in failing health since then. He was hospitalized on three occasions. Mr. Kulhanek was a longtime member of CZBJ Lodge No. 5 at Verdigre. Surviving are his widow; one daughter, Mrs. Bernard (Clara) Hasenpflug of Creighton; two sons, Edward and Joe Jr. of Fremont; seven grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
