Description	:	Joseph Maruska, 86, Perry, died Jan. 17, 1997, at his home. Mr. Maruska was sheriff of Bon Home County, S.D., for 16 years, from 1955 to 1971. He later owned and operated a blacksmith shop in Tyndall, S.D., until he moved to Perry in 1991. He was born March 16, 1910, in Scotland, S.D., the son of Jim and Stella Jezick Maruska. Read More	Joseph Maruska, 86, Perry, died Jan. 17, 1997, at his home. Mr. Maruska was sheriff of Bon Home County, S.D., for 16 years, from 1955 to 1971. He later owned and operated a blacksmith shop in Tyndall, S.D., until he moved to Perry in 1991. He was born March 16, 1910, in Scotland, S.D., the son of Jim and Stella Jezick Maruska. Mr. Maruska had been a member and chief of the Tyndall, fire department for 27 years. He also served on the Tyndall, city council and was director of Civil Defense in South Dakota for 12 years. Mr. Maruska was a member of St. Theresa Catholic Church, Perry. He had been president of the Blacksmith and Welders Association and was a member and past president of the Isaac Walton League, a wildlife organization. He was married to Theresa Hamberger in 1927. She died in 1973. He later was married to Ellsie Praveceka. She died in 1989. Mr. Maruska also was preceded in death by two sisters, six brothers, and a grandson. Survivors include two sons, Lawrence Maruska, Perry, and Raymond Maruska, Cleveland; a daughter, Norma Humpal, Omaha, Neb.; two brothers, Jimmy Maruska, in California, Charles Maruska, Washington; a sister, Sylvia Kepplinger, Yankton, S.D.; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Cremation was planned. Inurnment was at Rose Hill City Cemetery, Scotland, S.D., and will be private.
