Description	:	May 1, 1933 - Carroll Daily Herald - Joseph Laughlin, well known undertaker of Carroll for more than 30 years, died at his home on North Court street at 6:30 o'clock yesterday morning. He had been in failing health since August and for the last week had been unable to leave his bed. Funeral services will be held at 9 o'clock tomorrow morning from St. Joseph's church, where requiem mass will be celebrated by the Very Rev. Father P.T. Lynch. Born in Ireland, Joseph Loughlin was born at Londonderry, Ireland, Nov. 1, 1847, and with his parents, Robert and Margaret Dris Doris Laughlin and a sister Charlotte, came to the United States in October 1854. They lived in Philadelphia for a year and from that place moved to Dixon, Illinois. They came to Carroll county in 1876 and settled on a farm in Eden township. Some time later the family moved into Carroll and Mr. Laughlin entered the undertaking business with a brother-in-law, the firm being known as Boos and Laughlin, and was located on East Fifth street. The firm was bought out by Arts Brothers and Mr. Laughlin continued as undertaker. After the disposal of the business by Arts Brothers, Mr. Laughlin served in the capacity of undertaker for P.C. Neu, C.A. Mellott, and L.C. Wright and retired about eight years, ago. He was a genial friendly man and always ready to render services to his neighbors and friends. He was united in marriage Mary Hamill at Dixon, Illinois and to this union three sons were born: James Laughlin, formerly auditor of Carroll county, died three years ago, Robert Laughlin of Pueblo, Colo, and Will Laughlin, of Grand Island, Neb., who survive. He married his second wife, Isabel Boos in Oct. 1885 at Templeton and she, with their adopted son, Charles Macke, of Vail, survive. He also leaves a brother, Robert Laughlin and a sister, Mrs. Kate Coffey, both of Hastings, Neb., who are at the Laughlin home. Mr. Laughlin was a devout member of St. Joseph's church. This evening the Holy Name society of that parish will meet at the Laughlin home at 298 South Court street to recite the rosary at 7:30 o'clock.
