Bender and Lucy Robinson Bender December 31, 1906, at Strang, Fillmore County, Nebraska, and passed away January 1, 1979, at Geneva at the age of 73 years and 1 day. He was one of four children in the family. Joe resided in Geneva nearly all of his life. He attended Geneva public schools and was a member of the Geneva Congregational Church. He was married to Mildred Jean McClintock of Pennsylvania on June 29, 1929, and to them three children were born. Joe worked most of his life in and around Geneva and was employed by Wilkins Steel Building Co. when he retired. He spent most of his spare time involved in little league and American Legion baseball. He had a number of outstanding ball teams. Sports was a very great part of his life, even until the evening he passed away, he was interested in athletics. He is survived by his wife, Mildred of Geneva, his sons, Robert of Geneva and George of York; and a daughter, Joan Polak of York; and by 12 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted from the Farmer and Son Funeral Home at Geneva at 2 p.m., Friday, January 5, 1979, with Rev. Marshal Hinds officiating. Mrs. Clarence Najmon sang, “How Great Thou Art” and “In the Garden,” accompanied on the organ by Mrs. Norval Lomax. Pallbearers were Harlan Domeier, Michael O’Brien, Don Wilkins, Gene Buerer, Harley Nichols and Dean Willey. Interment was in the Geneva Cemetery. The Nebraska Signal January 18th, 1979 page 5.
