He was a war veteran and a resident of Ottumwa for 23 years. Mr. Lord was born November 10, 1895, in Bolton Lancashire, England, the son of Mathew and Alice Kirkman Lord. Read More	Obituary From “Ottumwa Courier,” November 18, 1953: Joseph Lord, 58, of 1831 West Samantha street, died at the St. Joseph hospital at 4:10 a.m. today. He was a war veteran and a resident of Ottumwa for 23 years. Mr. Lord was born November 10, 1895, in Bolton Lancashire, England, the son of Mathew and Alice Kirkman Lord. He was married to Mary McDonald, January 26, 1921. A veteran of World war I, he enlisted in Albia and was a private first class with the casual detachment No. 828, last serving with demolition group, Co. A, 32nd engineers. He served with the armed forces in Europe from June 15, 1918, to June 9, 1919, and was discharged at Camp Dodge June 21, 1919. He was a member of V.F.W. post No. 775, and of M.O.C. No. 16. He is survived by his wife, Mary; four sons, Joseph T., James M., Donald D., and John W. Lord, all of Ottumwa; and one daughter, Mrs. Dorothy Nichols, of Ottumwa; 11 grandchildren and one brother, James M. Lord of Des Moines. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, and two grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at the Johnson funeral chapel at 3 p.m. Friday with the Rev. LaVerne Morris of the Davis Street Christian church, in charge. Burial will be in the Shaul cemetery. Military services will be conducted at the grave by the V.F.W.
