Read More	Eagle Grove Eagle, July 1931 JOSEPH LOUX OCTOGENARIAN DIED SUNDAY Weakened by the heat and advanced age, Wright County Pioneer Passes On Aged 81. Joseph Loux, son of Theophile Loux and Emily Claude was born in Le Howald, Alsace, France, February 22, 1850, and died at his home in Eagle Grove, Iowa, at the age of 81 years 4 months and 6 days. He was baptized in the Lutheran faith and at the age of 14 years he was confirmed in the German Lutheran Church. When in was 18 years of age he came with his parents and brothers and sister to the United States and lived near Serena, Ill. for a number of years. In 1875 Mr. Loux and his brother, Louis, came to Woolstock and broke prairie sod on the farm their father had purchased there. He then went back to Illinois and returned to Iowa in 1882. In 1884 he was united in marriage to Marie Louise Kastler and to this union were born nine children, the wife, two boys and four girls survive. They are, Charles Loux of Eagle Grove; Celestin Loux, Eagle Grove; Mrs. C. A. Schutt, Woolstock; Mrs. W. A. Schaumberg, Clarion; Elsie at home and Mrs. August Grandgeorge, Eagle Grove. Two daughters and one son have preceded him in death. Lizzie in 1894, George in 1919 and Nellie on June 21, 1931. He also leaves two brothers and one sister, Lester Loux of Ladysmith, Wis., Theophile Loux of Woolstock, Mrs. Louise Kastler of Valeda, Kan. The address of one brother, Louis Loux, is unknown, and one brother, Charles Loux passed on in 1921.Those from a distance who were here to attend the funeral were: Lester Loux, Ladysmith, Wis., Mrs. Louise Kastler of Valeda, Kan., and Mr. And Mrs. Lester Kastler of Tyro, Kan. Mr. Loux's daughter, Nellie preceded him in death just a week. Funeral services were held at the French Church in Woolstock Wednesday afternoon and burial was in the French Church cemetery. Mr. Loux was a most successful farmer. He was saving and thrifty and while he came to this country without a dollar, he acquired a modest fortune which shows what can be accomplished in this country by hard work and the will and ability to save. The Eagle extends the bereaved relatives the sympathy of all in the hour of their great sorrow. Wright County Monitor- ca August - Sept 1931 JOE LOUX LEFT LARGE FORTUNE - So much is heard these days about the "busted" farmer that the following facts from the inventory of the estate of the late Joseph Loux, a retired Woolstock township farmer, will be refreshing news. Mr. Loux died a few weeks ago leaving surviving him a widow and six children. His estate is valued at $126,272. It comprises 631 acres of land valued at $63,000; the personal property, consisting of livestock, grain and machinery, is valued at $5,103; cash items are: checking account, $522.20, certificates of deposit $29,603.98; stock, bonds, note and mortgages, $28,2028.50. No will was found, hence under the old law the widow would receive one third, plus $15,000, without inheritance tax penalty. The children or each direct heir may receive $15,000 without being subject to tax. The new law, recently in effect, provides that the widow will be allowed the lump sum of $40,000. Free from tax. Mr. Loux was an industrious and frugal farmer and thrifty to a marked degree as the above figures clearly disclose.
