Description	:	SOUTH SIOUX CITY -- Joseph L. Mahr, 79, of South Sioux City, formerly of Van Horne, Iowa, died Tuesday, June 25, 2002, at a Sioux City hospital following a brief illness. Services will be 9 a.m. Saturday at St. Michael Catholic Church with the Rev. Paul Albensius officiating. Burial with military graveside services will be in St. Michael Catholic Cemetery, rural South Sioux City. Visitation will be 2 to 3 p.m. today at Becker-Hunt Funeral Home. Mr. Mahr was born Feb. 16, 1923, in Dorchester, Iowa, the son of Walter J. and Mary (Schwartzhoff) Mahr. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He married Lois E. Schulze on Feb. 8, 1947, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. The couple had been long time residents of the Siouxland area. He was an independent insurance agent. He was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church, Father Trecy Council Knights of Columbus, American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the Northeast Sportsman Association. He enjoyed fishing, camping and woodworking. Survivors include his wife; two sons and their wives, Lyle M. and Patricia of South Sioux City, Larry J. and Laury of Dakota City; a daughter, Linda M. Miller of Hinton, Iowa; three brothers and their wives, Reginold and Evelyn of Vinton, Iowa, Eugene and Judy of Lime Springs, Iowa, Walter and Marianne of Dorchester, Iowa; two sisters, Lou Mae Ryan of DuBois, Penn., Margie and her husband, "Ole" Ohrstrom, of Rock Island,Ill.; eleven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Raymond; and two sisters, Genevieve Herbert Wilson and Madeline Schwartzhoff. Sioux City Journal
