McKenzie, 86, 1512 Center St., one of the founders of McKenzie Hardware Store, died Monday morning at a Sioux City nursing home after an illness of three months. McKenzie, 86, 1512 Center St., one of the founders of McKenzie Hardware Store, died Monday morning at a Sioux City nursing home after an illness of three months. Mr. McKenzie was born Sept. 2, 1888, in Sioux City, and had lived here all his life. He attended Sioux City schools. He was one of Sioux City's early brick masons, and was a bricklayer for 25 years. In 1929, he and his brother, the late Leo McKenzie, founded the McKenzie Hardware. The store, at 805 W. Seventh St., in later years expanded from the hardware business to one of the area's largest marine centers. He was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church and was a past member of the local bricklayers union. Survivors are a brother, Thomas L. of San Leandro, Calif.; two sisters, Mrs. Angus (Catherine) McCulloch and Mrs. Elmer (Virginia) Bettis Sr., both of Sioux City, six nephews and ten nieces. Services will be at 12 noon Wednesday at St Boniface Catholic Church with the Rev. Odoric Akwick officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery under the direction of Meyer Bros. Colonial Chapel. Pallbearers will be Mark McCulloch, James Tieck, Bill Carlson, Bill Nemesio, Terry Stevens and Donald Revis. The Rosary will be recited at 8 o'clock tonight at the funeral home.
