Mr. Narigon was in Nodaway Saturday afternoon in apparently as good as health as usual. He returned home and passed the evening as usual. Soon after retiring, Mrs. Narigon was aroused by his peculiar breathing, but before she could procure a light the spirit had died. Their son, William, who lives in Nodaway, was notified by telephone and summoning Dr. Stanley the two drove to the residence, 3 miles north of town. The doctor gave heart failure as the cause of death. Joseph Narigon was born in Tuscarawas County, Ohio, August 27, 1840; died in Adams County, Iowa February 22, 1908, being 67 years, 5 months, and 26 days old. At Bushnell, Illinois, December 10, 1869, he was united in marriage with Adelaide Humphery. To this union nine children were born, one dying in infancy. Eight children, with his life companion survive him, and all of the children were present at the funeral. He entered the military service of the United States on the 12th day of December, 1861, as a private of Company e., 80th Ohio Infantry, and followed the fortunes of the regiment until the battle of Mission ridge, where he was severely wounded. His regiment which belonged at that time to the 3rd Division, 15th Army Corps, under Sherman, was badly cut up and several of his company were left dead upon the field. One bone was removed from Mr. Narigon's arm and he was permanently disabled for active service, and he was finally discharged September 22, 1864. Mr. Narigon joined the Presbyterian Church in Nodaway in 1901, under the ministry of Rev. J. K. Driver, and remained a faithful member until his death. He was scrupulously honest in his dealings and a sturdy supporter of what he thought was right, a good neighbor, a faithful friend, and a good husband and father. The funeral was held at 12 o'clock Wednesday, February 26, at the Presbyterian Church in Nodaway, Rev. J. K. Driver of Villisca, his former pastor, conducting the service.
