Description	:	Joseph Nicholas Mousel passed away Saturday, December 1, 2007 at the Prairie Manor Good Samaritan Society in Sharon Springs, KS. Mr. Mousel was in Prairie Manor for physical rehabilitation following his discharge from the hospital due to a stroke on November 22, 2007. Prior to his passing, Mr. Mousel has been cared for in his home during a long convalescence by his daughter and sons of the home. Prior to his passing, Mr. Mousel has been cared for in his home during a long convalescence by his daughter and sons of the home. Mr. Mousel was born on June 29, 1913, to Leo Joseph and Annie Apolonia Adams Mousel on the family homestead south of First View, CO. In 1918, when Mr. Mousel was five years old, his family moved northwest of First View. He was baptized and confirmed at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Cheyenne Wells, CO. As a young student, Mr. Mousel attended Golden Valley School and Cheyenne Wells County High School. Mr. Mousel was active in FFA and Drama during his high school career. He graduated from high school in 1932. Mr. Mousel married Justina Francesa Wehling on December 26, 1936, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Cheyenne Wells, CO. Granted to this blessed union, were ten children: Judy Marie Locke currently of Commerce City, CO; Nicholas Henry Mousel and his spouse, Judy, currently of Cheyenne Wells, CO; Adrian Orville Mousel and his spouse, Betty Jean, of Cheyenne Wells, CO; Kathleen Ann Staab of Hays, KS; Elizabeth Josephine Lee of Winona, KS; Nancy Leona Davis and her spouse, Michael, currently of Seymour, MO; Leo Anton Mousel and his spouse, Mary, of Filer, ID; Linda Louise Beller and her spouse, Ernie, currently of Spring Creek, NV; Therese Mouse of the home; and Edward Mousel of the home. Mr. Mousel is survived by his wife, Justina (96), of the home, his younger brother, Orville Mousel (87), of Cape Coral, FL, his ten children, 31 grandchildren, 6 step-grandchildren, 51 great grandchildren, and 13 step great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. Mr. Mousel was preceded in death by his parents, his older brother, Henry Mouse, his older sister, Sadie Oswald, his younger sister Mary Flanders, on step-grandchild, Ryan Beller, one infant great grandchild, and his son-in-law Benno Staab. During his life, Mr. Mousel held a variety of interesting jobs. In 1935 and 1950, he worked as a Section Jerry or Section Hand on the railroad. He worked in the hay fields in 1935, 1936, and 1937 six weeks at a time, and also worked there in 1950 with his sons Nick and Adrian. He worked for the Soil Conservation Service in 1933, sheared sheep from 1941-1981, and was a mail carrier from 1938 to 1942. He also drove a school bus from 1957 to 1967, raised cattle and sheep, and armed 80 to 100 acres just north of the present home place, and rotated between feed and wheat. In 1969, he bought a section south of the present home place and started farming there. In 1935, he rode horseback from Cheyenne Wells, CO to Cheyenne Wyoming with his friend George Linn where they attended the Cheyenne Frontier Days Rodeo. He also drove to Palisade, CO every fall for 60 years to buy peaches to sell around he Cheyenne Wells area and for home use.
