Description	:	After a brave struggle for health, which extended into many months, death prevailed and claimed Joseph Gillespie Wednesday night at the Kokomo hospital, where he was treated for spinal trouble since July. He had an operation for the removal of a spinal tumor and the wound never healed. During the seven months he suffered intensely, yet bore his affliction with a cheerful spirit of resignation. He had an operation for the removal of a spinal tumor and the wound never healed. During the seven months he suffered intensely, yet bore his affliction with a cheerful spirit of resignation. His wife, mother and sisters arrived at his bedside a few hours before his demise. The remains were brought to his home in Sharpsville and there will await the funeral which will be held in the St. John's Catholic church in Tipton Saturday morning at 9 o'clock. Burial will be in the Catholic cemetery. Joseph was born June 18, 1881 on the parental homestead two miles north of Tipton, where he grew to manhood. He was the son of Michael P. and Margaret Gillespie, who were residents of this county for 48 years, until last March, when they moved to South Bend, where the father, died December 24, 1919 Joseph was married to Miss Catherine Metzler, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Metzler, of near Windfall, on Sept. 20, 1904, and this union was blessed with two daughters, Anita, 12, and Florence, aged 11. The deceased held the position of rural carrier out of Sharpsville. When his failing health compelled him to give up his duties, his wife became the substitute and performed the work so efficiently that she was given the route permanently.
