Description	:	"Joseph Pilant, one of the proprietors of the Pacific hotel, died in his apartments at the hotel at 10:30 o'clock Sunday night after a lingering illness. The remains will be taken to Stanton Tuesday noon for burial. The Masonic order, of which Mr. Pilant was a member, will have charge of t he short services at t he Pacific hotel Tuesday morning at 11 o'clock, after which the remains will be taken to Stanton. At his beside when he passed away were Mrs. Pilant, his two sons, Walter and Benjamin, and his brother, John Pilant of Independence, Mo. Joseph Pilant was born in Clay county, Mo., fifty-five years ago. During the civil war he moved with his parents on a farm in the northwestern part of Kansas. He lived there for fifteen years, moving later to Leavenworth county and then hence to Kansas City, where for twenty-six years he was employed as engineer with the Missouri Pacific railroad company. Twenty-two years ago he moved to Omaha, where two years later he was married. Four years ago he gave up railroading to settle on a farm in Stanton county, but gave that up for the hotel business in the town of Stanton. Two years ago he and his son-in-law, J. A. Kingsley, purchased the Pacific hotel of this city. Mr. Pilant was well known in the railroad circles and has made many friends in Norfolk during the two years of his residence here."
