Description	:	Joseph R. Bumgardner, died 17 Dec 1935 at his home at Big Spring. He was one of the most widely known carpenters of the Page Valley. He had worked on many of the important construction projects in Page Co. during the past half century his last job being on the Luray High School building. After its completion he went to Washington & worked for several weeks. Bumgardner, died 17 Dec 1935 at his home at Big Spring. He was one of the most widely known carpenters of the Page Valley. He had worked on many of the important construction projects in Page Co. during the past half century his last job being on the Luray High School building. When his health began to fail he returned home and was only able to leave there once during the entire period that being several weeks ago when he visited a daughter, Mrs. John Yowell of Luray. He was the s/o the late Ira Bumgardner, one of the pioneers of Page Co. & an authentic historian of his day. He was born 69 years ago at the old homestead west of the river from Big Spring & has since resided in his native county where by honesty & integrity he built for himself a name of which one could be proud. 48 years ago he married Margaret Heiston d/o the late Abram Heiston of the Big Spring neighborhood. She is a niece of the former Sheriff N. T. Sedwick, the late Mayberry & Blake Sedwick. Children, Lloyd Bumgardner of Washington, DC., Mrs. Harvey Fristoe of Kimball, Mrs. Roland Good of Washington, DC. & Mrs. John Yowell of Luray. Brothers & sisters, B. F. Bumgardner of Woodstock, Charles G. Bumgardner of Front Royal, W. E. Bumgardner of Naked Creek, Va., H. W. Bumgardner of Luray, Mrs. Frank Yates & Mrs. Oscar Hammer of the Springfield neighborhood. He was a member of the Big Spring Old School Baptist Church from which his funeral was conducted. Burial in Beahm's Chapel Cemetery.
