Description	:	MELANCHOLY CATASTROPHE! On the night of the 5th inst. the Dwellinghouse on the Farm at Barnstead, belonging to Capt. Richard Salter of Portsmouth, took fire and was entirely consumed with all the furniture and its contents. What adds extreme poignancy to this distressing accident is, that Mr Joseph Salter, a promising and enterprizing son (aged 17 years) of Capt Salter's was burnt to death in the flames. What adds extreme poignancy to this distressing accident is, that Mr Joseph Salter, a promising and enterprizing son (aged 17 years) of Capt Salter's was burnt to death in the flames. He was awoke by a woman who lived in the house, and begged to make his escape by a window, which he had nearly reached, but said he must return for some papers, and (dreadful to relate) in attempting to obtain them he was suffocated and enwrapt in the flames and smoke. His remains were found among the ruins the next morning, and we hear, have been decently interred. This young gentleman was employed in attending a store of goods there belonging to his father. The store being at a little distance from the house was not burnt. The other people who lived in the house were awoke with it all in flames, and narrowly escaped by jumping out of the windows.
