Pg 253 (under Union Twp)": Joseph Price, son of Peter Price, deceased, a sketch of whom will be found elsewhere in this volume, was born in Mifflin Co, PA, Feb 7, 1829, and at the age of 2 years was brought to what was then Carroll Co, by his parents. Sept 15, 1852, he married Ellen Cochell, a native of PA, and that same year moved to his present place in Jefferson Twp, Carroll Co, IN, 2 1/2 miles from Monticello. To this marriage there have been born 9 children, viz: Isaac, deceased. Mary A., deceased; Franklin, who married Ella Plummer and resides in this Twp; Peter P., deceased; Emma, who was married to Philip Wolverton and died, leaving one child, Margaret E.; Evaline, John L., Ida M., and one the first born that died in infancy unnamed. Mrs. Price died Nov 4, 1873, and June 10, 1874, Mr. Price married Maria L. Stout, who has borne him 3 children Josie, deceased; Benjamin and Edna. Mr. Price owns 480 acres of land in this county, and about an equal number in Carroll Co; he is an Odd Fellow and a Republican, and he and wife are members of the Methodist Episcopal Church. The following taken from the book: "A Standard History of White Co by Hamelle 1915; pg 484": Joseph Price died at his home in Carroll Co, just southeast of Monticello, Sep 8, 1898. He was a son of Peter Price, one of the first settlers in the vicinity of Monticello, where he grew to manhood. His widow, Mrs. Maria Price, and 3 children, Ben Price, Jr, Mrs. George Biederwolf and Mrs. Charles W. Davis, are now residents of Monticello. At the time of his death, Mr. Price was in his 69th year.
