When he was a youth, the family moved to a farm west of Saline Center where he received his education in a rural school near there. On November 30, 1926 he was united in marriage to Josie Kresak. The early years of their married life was spent on a farm near Tobias, until they purchased a farm southeast of Friend where they lived. Four years ago they retired and moved into Friend. Read More	********************************************************** Joseph Spicka, son of Karl and Anna Karnik Spicka, was born on a farm near Kramer, Nebraska on March 9, 1900. When he was a youth, the family moved to a farm west of Saline Center where he received his education in a rural school near there. On November 30, 1926 he was united in marriage to Josie Kresak. The early years of their married life was spent on a farm near Tobias, until they purchased a farm southeast of Friend where they lived. Four years ago they retired and moved into Friend. On November 30 1969 they observed their 43rd wedding anniversary. Mr. Spicka passed away suddenly at his home Tuesday, July 28 1970 at the age of 70. He was a member of Saline Center Lodge 389. Left to mourn his passing are his wife Josie, a son Alvin and a daughter, Norma Knoche, daughter-in-law, Elaine, son-in-law, James Knoche; 5 grandchildren, Debra, Kim, Kevin, and Donna Spicka and Vona Knoche; a brother, Charles, all of Friend; sister, Effie Pospisil of Denver; and a host of other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, and 4 brothers. Funeral services were held in the United Methodist Church in Friend, Thursday, July 30. Rev. Hughes officiated. The pallbearers were: Lewis Cecrie, Edward Kraus, Henry Kraus, Edward Janda, James Karbelick, and Walter Rasplieka. Joseph Vosoba spoke in behalf of the lodge. Burial was in the North Fork cemetery near Western with Moore's Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.
