Joseph Felix, prominent Adams county citizen, died from dropsy at his residence at Moritz's store, Freedom township, on Wednesday. No citizen of southern Adams county was better known in Gettysburg and throughout the upper end than "Joe" Felix, age 68 years, who spent his life as a store keeper, school teacher, and politician. In his early boyhood he took up residence in Freedom township, located in southwestern Adams county along the Emmitsburg road, and taught school in that locality for seventeen successive years. After completing his work in educational spheres, Mr. Felix became a store keeper at Moritz's corner situated on the Emmitsburg road seven miles south of Gettysburg. In 1911 he was nominated for sheriff on the Democratic ticket and was defeated by G. R. Thomson after a hard fought campaign. Subsequently Mr. Felix was named as deputy revenue collector for Adams county and for five years held that position while living in Gettysburg. At the expiration of his duties as revenue collector he moved back to Freedom township but was prevented from doing active work on account of failing health. Besides his wife, who was formerly Miss Gertrude Stoner, he is survived by two daughters, Margaret, who is training to be a nurse at St. Agnes hospital, Baltimore, Gertrude, at home, and one son, Joseph, at home.
