Hoban, 55, of 157 Polk Street, who died suddenly yesterday at his home, on Thursday at 9 a.m. in St. Patrick's Catholic Church. Rt. Rev. Msgr. J. Lawrence Kiilkenny, rural dean of Western Maryland and pastor of St. Patrick's Church, will be celebrant and interment will be in parish cemetery. Military honors will be accorded at the graveside by members of Henry Hart Post, VFW, and Fort Cumberland Post 13, American Legion. The body is at the Stein Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 2 until 4 p.m. and 7 until 9 p.m. The rosary will be recited at the funeral home tomorrow at 8 p.m. by members of the Holy Name Society of St. Patrick's church. Following his retirement from the Cumberland Fire Department in May 1951, he went to work at Allegany Ballistics Laboratory at Pinto where he was employed as a fireman. Mr Hoban, who entered the service of the fire department on May 16, 1926, was stationed at East Side for 19 years and was a driver. Later he was appointed a lieutenant and was at Central Fire Station three years. He was captain at West Side three years prior to his retirement. While in the Fire Department he was hospitalized on January 1, 1950, when he lost his footing and fell from a 10-foot pile of lumber while fighting a three-alarm fire at the Buchanan Lumber Company. He sustained torn ligaments in his back. From 1942 to 1945 he served in the Navy and was stationed in the Pacific. He was a chief pipe fitter and was in 16 engagements aboard a destroyer and mine sweeper. Mr. Hoban also worked at the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad Company backstops here, where he was a pipefitter. He was a member St. Patrick's Catholic Church, the Holy Name, Henry Hart Post 1411, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Fort Cumberland Post 13, American Legion and Cumberland Aerie 245, Fraternal Order of Eagles. A native of Lonaconing, he was born June 21, 1903, was a son of Margaret (Sullivan) Hoban, city and the late Thomas James Hoban. He attended Central High School at Lonaconing. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Nellie Elizabeth (Betty) Hoban, a daughter, Mrs. Charles Pinto, Frostburg, a son, Joseph J. Hoban, city, two sisters, Mrs. Ann Bible, city, Mrs. Alice Rodda, Essex, and three grandchildren. Published in Cumberland Evening Times (Cumberland, Maryland), 24 June 1958, Tuesday
