He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, where he was on the board of trustees; a member of the board of directors of the Federal Land Bank; member of the Northeastern Local Board of Education; member of Omega Masonic Lodge F&AM 529; Ensawosca Chapter 89 Royal Arch Masons; Defiance OES and Jewell American Legion. He was a veteran of World War II. Friends may call in Mast and Mock Funeral Home until noon Monday and then in the First Presbyterian Church for an hour before 2 p.m. services. The Rev. John O. Meloy will officiate and burial will be in Riverview Memorial Gardens. A Masonic memorial service will be conducted in the funeral home at 8 p.m. Sunday. Services for Joseph W. Tanner were held in the First Presbyterian Church Monday, December 28, with the Rev. John O. Meloy officiating. Mrs. Sally Myers was organist and burial was in Riverview Memory Gardens. Pallbearers were Virgil Kunesh, Walter Flowers, Ned Dunbar, Howard Shock, Roger Farlee and Alan Moore. Military rites were conducted at graveside by members of the Jewell Legion Post. Participating were: Commander Duane Van Valkenburg an Ed Remmer who presented the flag to the widow, flag bearers, Floyd Nicely and John Dunbar; color guard, Eldor Meyer and John Hammon; sergeant-at-arms, John Lenhart; firing squad, Harry Shock, Bud Shock, Clarence Watson, Lee Kemming, Dick Helmke, Ed Leopold an Bud Liska; buglers, Tim Buchhop and John Shock. Mast and Mock Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
